A Brief History

Caledonia, Michigan, began with the arrival of Asahel Kent in 1838. He and his family settled near the intersection of Whitneyville Avenue and 100th Street, establishing a tavern that became a local gathering place. The first township post office was also located at the tavern!
The arrival of the Grand River Valley Railroad in 1870 significantly impacted the area. A settlement known as Caledonia Station grew around the depot. This eventually evolved into Caledonia village, which was officially incorporated in 1888. The railroad played a crucial role in the community’s growth and development, facilitating trade and transportation.
